At Taly Grooming we are focused on providing a safe and secure environment for your dog. To ensure the health and safety of your pet we require all of our clients to read and understand the following policies.
The dog owner will advise us of any medical, physical, or emotional issues, allergies, sensitivities, and pre-existing conditions. These may include prior surgeries, hip or joint issues, warts, moles, ear infections or skin problems. We will not groom pets that have open wounds, cuts, or sores for the safety of your pet. In addition, we require you to inform us if your pet has been sedated before the grooming process, that way there are no surprises. Also, we will not groom pets that require an injectable sedative.
CANCELLATION POLICY
Our booking tool works to ensure that you receive an appointment that fits your needs and schedule. However, missed appointments are lost opportunities and lost income for the groomer who works on commission. We ask our clients to give at least 24-hour notice when cancelling or rescheduling an appointment or 70% of the grooming session will be added to your next grooming bill.
FLEAS
Unfortunately, we cannot accept dogs with fleas because it would risk an infection in our saloon and, as a result, risk other’s client’s dogs’ healthiness.
However, we are happy to provide regular flea prevention treatment with the most effective products for your best friend. If your dog has fleas, please treat them prior to hiring us.
HEALTH
If your pet is displaying ANY symptoms of a communicable illness (coughing, diarrhea, fever) prior to appointment, we ask that you reschedule your grooming appointment and seek veterinary care. If we see any of these symptoms at the time of arrival, we will cancel the appointment. This is a courtesy to other pets in our care as well as yours (pets do not want to be groomed if they feel ill). Please advise our staff of any change in your dog’s health or medical condition upon arrival so that we may update your pet’s file.
VACCINATIONS
If you dog has not been vaccinated before or their previous vaccination is out of date, please leave 14 days from the date of vaccination and the appointment date of their treatment. We regret that we are unable to groom puppies until 2 weeks after their 2nd vaccination.
MAT REMOVAL
We will not cause unnecessary discomfort to any pet, including de-matting. We will only de-tangle hair according to your pet’s comfort level. Removing a heavily matted coat includes the risk of nicks, cuts and/or abrasions due to moles, warts or skin folds trapped in the mats.  If your pet cannot be humanely dematted, we may ask permission to clip the hair short and “start over.” We will always ask for your permission. Heavy matting can also trap moisture near the pet’s skin which can cause mold, fungus or bacteria skin irritations that exist prior to the grooming process.  The after-effects of mat removal procedures may include itchiness, skin redness, self-inflicted irritations or abrasions, or failure of hair to re-grow. Shaved pets are also prone to sunburn and should either have sunscreen applied daily or should be kept out of the sun until the hair grows sufficiently to protect the skin.  In some cases, pets may also exhibit brief behavioral changes.  As the owner, you are responsible for the condition of your pet’s coat and will not hold Taly Grooming responsible in the event of adverse effects of mat removal or shave-down.
SUMMER SHAVE-DOWNS
Shaving a heavily coated dog during the summer is NOT recommended.  In both hot and cold weather, a dog’s coat regulates body heat, provides insulation and protects from the sun.  Coats that are shaved off, particularly on Arctic breeds, may grow back patchy, uneven or not at all.
ACCIDENTS
We take every safety precaution available to ensure your pet has a safe, enjoyable, grooming experience. Unfortunately, we work with pointed objects and animals can be jumpy or unpredictable at times, so accidents may occur. In the event of an accident during the grooming process we suggest for you to seek veterinary care. Client releases Taly Grooming, of any and all medical liability and medical expenses.
BEHAVIOUR
If your pet has a bite history, or has attempted to bite a person, please consult your veterinarian to discuss grooming options. It is your responsibility as a client to provide a well-behaved animal to be groomed. For any reason during the grooming session the groomer feels there is a risk of injury to the pet or themselves they will end the grooming session. In this case 50% of the groom cost will be charged irrespective of how much of the grooming treatment has been completed.
SEDATIVES
Taly Grooming does not groom sedated pets. We will not give your pet any medication including sedatives. It is not recommend using sedatives prior to grooming unless it is the last resort. We ask that we are allowed to attempt the groom without the use of sedatives for at least one session. Most pets do very well in the quiet setting of a mobile grooming van and their previous grooming anxiety resolves itself. We understand that there are rare cases where sedatives are necessary for the safe completion of the grooming process, and this is best done under the supervision of your veterinarian.
